Conservatives are hammering Prime Minister Mark Carney over a remark he made Sunday in South Africa to reporters at the G-20 Summit.
Asked when he last spoke with U-S President Donald Trump, Carney answered "Who cares?" and said he has "no burning issue" to raise, adding Canada will return to trade talks when America wants to come back to the table.
That exchange was a hot topic in Monday's question period in the Commons,
Government House leader Steve MacKinnon later told reporters Carney "of course" cares about Canadian jobs and that negotiations with Washington remain constructive.
Meantime a federal government source has confirmed Carney is considering a trip to Washington next week.
