Well, it's Giving Tuesday. It's a global movement that encourages people to give back to their communities. Whether volunteering, donating your time, money, or performing acts of kindness, Food banks across the province hoping today will mean extra donations. According to a new report released yesterday by Food Banks Ontario, more and more Ontarians are relying on food banks to survive and demand is outpacing supply. With the highest number of food bank visits on record, 8.7 million between April 2024 and March of this year, which marks a 160% increase since 2019. CEO Carolyn Stewart calls it an affordability crisis, pushing more families from getting by to barely holding on. Mass layoffs just in time for the holidays, Algomez Steel apparently letting go 1/3 of its workforce as it accelerates a transition of new equipment in response to U.S. tariffs. About 1,000 workers are expected to receive layoff notices. Residential apartment fire in Toronto still burning after four days.
