It's Thursday, July 16th. Good morning, 20 right now in Brantford, 19 in Kitchener. It's 20 in Hamilton. Oil down to $79 a barrel while gas jumped two cents overnight to $1.73. I'm Stacey Englehart. I don't know if you've gone outside yet, but it is still really smoky out there. The wafts from forest fires has prompted Environment Canada to issue an orange warning for air quality. While wildfire smoke continues to blanket southern Ontario, including the GTHA, we're supposed to see the winds change direction, which could clear the air by tomorrow afternoon. Evacuation orders remain in effect for several First Nations in northwestern Ontario because of dozens of wildfires. A stunning video out of Armstrong shows CN rail crew inside a train with flames all around them. Hundreds of firefighters, helicopters and water bombers are battling more than 180 blazes across the province. The devastation from a fire that killed 20,000 pigs in Norfolk County is estimated at $30 million. About 50 firefighters took part battling the blaze for 9 hours. Now a few hot spots remain, but the cause is being classified as undetermined. Why? Because of poop. Yep, the entire building is a pit for manure, so the concerns are it's unsafe to investigate. And after a lengthy closed-door session, Hamilton City Council rejected a pause on new AI data centers. Counselors voted against the moratorium to give the city time to draft guardrails and guarantee public benefits. Critics argue counselors voted no because they didn't want to lose the funding, or as they refer to it, a quote, major investment opportunity. Sports. The 2026 World Cup final has been set. Argentina beat England 2-1 with some controversy for the refereeing. They apparently didn't punish Argentina for some of the aggressive play, leaving fans already figuring out the outcome. Doesn't help that FIFA's president was already on hot mic, hoping Argentina would win. The World Cup final set for Sunday at 3 between Spain and Argentina. Canadian Premier League Soccer, Hamilton hosts Pacific FC at 7, and the Blue Jays are off for the All-Star break. They're back home tomorrow to start up a series against the White Sox at 7.15. Weather, an orange air quality warning. We've got smoky skies today and tonight. We're going to get some sunshine though. A humidex feeling 30 today. Overnight falls to 18.
